A little background........

Hi, My name is Mark Knapp and I started Perform Optimal to help you reach your highest potential.

I have been involved in sports my whole life, mostly in Ice hockey, as a player and a coach. I played hockey and soccer in college and have coached in both sports as well as Track and Field. I have coached at the professional level and high school level.

I have always been interested in what makes great players great and what makes high performers of any kind stand out. I remember in 1970 as a boy watching the former Soviet Union National Hockey Team play and becoming infatuated with their style of play and skill level. That began my search for what made them so good. It led me to play in Sweden for a coach that studied under Anatoli Tarasov, the father of Russian hockey, and was one of the first westerners invited to Russia in the mid 70’s to study their game. Later, I returned to Sweden to coach with a team that had a staff of coaches who had studied the Russian style and training method carefully. Eventually, developing players potential became a passion and I returned to the US and became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach. Most of my career has been in education, while continuing my passion for coaching and developing athletes. I have studied psychology, nutrition, and alternative performance methods, along with strength and conditioning. I have tried and tested many methods myself. In the past few years I discovered ‘biohacking‘ which is basically the study and practice of doing what works to ‘hack‘ or find shortcuts to reaching the highest levels of performance. I began following Dave Asprey and Bulletproof and have since become a Certified Bulletproof Coach. This was a very thorough program that took a deep dive into all aspects affecting human performance and taught an approach to working with clients that has proven to be highly effective. I am very excited to take my past experience and apply this new knowledge and process to unlock the potential that lies within individual athletes and help them reach their highest potential.
